The 2001 redesign (nicknamed the TI-83 "Parcus") introduced a slightly different shape to the calculator itself, eliminated the glossy grey screen border, and reduced cost by streamlining the printed circuit board to four units. In 2001, the TI-83 Plus Silver Edition was released, which featured approximately nine times the available flash memory, and over twice the processing speed (15 MHz) of a standard TI-83 Plus, all in a translucent grey case inlaid with small "sparkles". The Flash memory can also be used to store user programs and data. The 2001 redesign introduced a design very similar to the TI-73 and TI-83 Plus, eliminating the sloped screen that had been common on TI graphing calculators since the TI-81, and included Flash memory, enabling the device's operating system to be updated if needed, or for large new Flash Applications to be stored, accessible through a new Apps key. TI replaced the TI-83 with the TI-83 Plus in 1999. This calculator functions more like a mini-computer, and with the Internet interface, my daughter will be able to use this for any engineering, math or science class in college. The TI-83 was redesigned twice, first in 1999 and again in 2001. Our vendor was efficient and quick to send us the product.Įven th ough I really didn't want to purchase yet another calculator, I am extremely pleased with my purchase. TI-84 Online Calculator Step by Step Math & Science Apps for the TI-89 Become a Wizard Improve Understanding Boost your Grade For Math & Science Test Prep, Homework. I also found out that it has AP Calculus test questions pre-loaded on it, which will be useful at the end of this school year. It has many other features that you download easily from the Internet to do other types of functions, such as finances, statistics, and an organizer (to name a few). It works beautifully and will (I hope) be useful for my daughter through her college years. ![]() The calculator is a very cool piece of technology. I was not exactly pleased that I would have to purchase yet another calculator since we already purchased the TI-83 and TI-84 for previous math courses. My daughter is taking Calculus next year in high school and (of course) the teacher required the students to have the TI-89 calculator. And don't replace this with knowledge, you still need to know the basics in your head in order to succeed in the class! Read full review My overall opinion: If you are planning on taking a Calculus course try to pick up one of these used and become familiar with it because it will seem very foreign at first. Pros: Derivatives, Solving Equations, Low Battery Meter.Ĭons: Price (if purchased new), Graphs can be a little hard to view. Here are some pros and cons that I feel go with this calculator. I have never used the Titanium version but see no downfall to using the original version. This is a great handy tool to check over your work to make sure you have not made any careless errors. This TI-89 does all the busy work for me! I now have more time to work on the actual problem that other stuff such as finding the derivatives and solving equations. It was fine in the beginning but I felt I was wasting a lot of time doing "busy" work. I started my calc class with a TI-83 Plus that I used for all my other math classes. Also, the price is not exorbitant, or even much more than the other TI graphing calculators. I would recommend this calculator to anyone that is adept with graphing calculators or needs the extra functionality of the 89. Another thing to note would be that most of the buttons on the TI-89 Titanium are placed differently than on the TI-84 or 83. A second complaint would be about the input, which is sometimes cumbersome, but still effective (the input is no different than that of a TI-84 or 83). My biggest complaint would be that it is NOT BEGINNER FRIENDLY. I am certainly not a beginner with TI calculators, but sometimes this calculator can still confuses me. ![]() The main difference between this one and the TI-nspire is that the nspire has a colored display and a nice input keyboard, however, it lacks the computin g power and 3-d graphing features of the TI-89 Titanium. ![]() The screen is black/white but can still produce images with nice contrast. This last function is extremely valuable in multi-variable calculus. It does almost everything I could want it to it solves equations, differentiates, integrates (both definite and indefinite integrals), and graphs in three dimensions-slowly but that's to be expected, it's only a calculator. I've used a TI-84 and TI-83 in the past, and the possible functions of those calculators pale in comparison to the TI-89 Titanium. ![]() Its functionality and computing power are astounding. I bought this calculator for my advanced level Calculus and Physics courses. Astounding functionality and computing power! But not beginner-friendly.
